Increased compute in Azure Database for MySQL & PostgreSQL servers

Customers can now scale up their compute to 64 vCores in the General Purpose pricing tiers and 32 vCores in the Memory Optimised tiers in Azure Database for MySQL & PostgreSQL.

With this increase in compute, the service supports even larger workloads and helps customers accommodate future growth.

Disaster recovery for virtual machines deployed in Availability Zones to another region

You can now replicate and fail over virtual machines deployed in Availability Zones to other regions by using Azure Site Recovery. This capability is generally available in all regions that support Availability Zones. For more information, see the detailed blog post. Along with availability sets and Availability Zones, Azure Site Recovery completes the resiliency continuum for applications running on Azure Virtual Machines.

Disaster recovery between Azure regions is available in all Azure regions where Site Recovery is available. 

Azure portal December 2018 update

The following updates were made to the Azure portal in December 2018:

Compute

  • Updated experience for virtual machine creation and management

Security

  • General availability of the Azure Security Centre network map
  • Updated Security Policy page
  • Updated experience for access control (IAM)

Management Tools

  • Updates to Azure Site Recovery

Virtual network service endpoints for Azure Database for MariaDB

Virtual network service endpoints for Azure Database for MariaDB in all regions are now in Public Preview.

You can use virtual network service endpoints to isolate connectivity to your logical server from only a subnet or a set of subnets within your virtual network. The traffic to Azure Database for MariaDB from your virtual network always stays within the Azure backbone network. Preference for this direct route is over any specific routes that take internet traffic through virtual appliances or on-premises.

There is no additional billing for virtual network access through service endpoints.
